Deputy Mayor
Rugiatu Sulaimani Koroma is the Deputy Mayor of Kenema City Council, a city with a population of over 255,110 inhabitants.
Her leadership journey began with her service as District Chairlady of the Kenema District Football Association, a position she held for nine (9) years. During this period, she demonstrated strong organizational and leadership skills, and it was there that her interest in national politics began to grow.
On 23rd June 2018, she was elected Deputy Mayor of Kenema City Council through Sierra Leone’s national local council elections. In recognition of her commitment and service, she was re-elected in the 2023 national elections, making her the first Deputy Mayor in Sierra Leone to have won two consecutive terms, serving a total of ten (10) years since the re-establishment of local councils in the country.
The Deputy Mayor Koroma is widely regarded as a dedicated social figure, known for her leadership qualities and deep commitment to community development.
Academically, she holds a GCSE O-Level Certificate from Njaama Secondary School, Kono, in 1988.
